Even though there was a slight spark in the bottom of his heart hoping that she might show up, he was being realistic. Caroline wouldn’t want to see him; not even for a last goodbye.
But there she was. She seemed more beautiful than usual, but maybe it was because that was probably the last time he’d ever see her face again. What a great vision for a man’s last living day.
“Luckily for you, no one was there to stop me”, she said, her hesitant smile turning cocky, and then finally bright as always. But somehow, it didn’t reach her blue eyes; Klaus figured that Caroline was seeing this meeting as a goodbye too, but she’d never admit it. Not to herself and definitely not to him. Always in denial, he thought. Klaus was fine with that. They never needed to put feelings into words, after all.
